Serving Seafood and Thai Cuisine
We almost forgot about the Phromthep Cape Restaurant, located immediately adjacent to the Laem Phromthep Viewpoint in Southern Phuket. The other day we rediscovered this great restaurant and enjoyed an excellent lunch overlooking the Andaman Sea.
Phromthep Cape Restaurant offers mainly seafood dishes, which you would expect in a restaurant overlooking the ocean, although you can order most Thai dishes as well. Considering the restaurant is located in such a tourist hotspot as Phromthep Cape, you’d think that they would charge much more for their food. Surprisingly, the price of dishes is quite reasonable, considering it is mostly seafood. Expect to pay around 150 baht for each plate of food, although this can go up or down depending on your specific order.
I’ll admit that Phromthep Cape Restaurant is not the ideal place to eat lunch. Most of the tables are not covered, and sitting under the hot Phuket sun is not my idea of an enjoyable meal. Fortunately there are enough tables that are in the shade that you should be able to find one, assuming there isn’t a large lunch crowd. When we were there, it was pretty empty, so I doubt it will be a problem.
Since Phromthep Cape is known for it’s amazing sunset views, the obvious time to head on up for a bite would be thirty minutes or so before sunset. Grab a table overlooking the sea and watch the amazing display as you enjoy delicious food and a cold cocktail. It’s a very romantic place in the evening and it is a great restaurant to take a date without spending too much money.
If you are coming from Rawai Beach, just follow the road up towards Laem Phromthep Viewpoint, there are plenty of signs, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding the place. Either park at the top of the hill with all the tourists, walk up the steps to the very top, you will see the restaurant off to your right. If you are coming from Ya Nui Beach head up towards the viewpoint but turn into the Phromthep Cape Restaurant parking lot on the right before you reach the top of the hill. You will then have to walk up the hill to the restaurant.
Phromthep Cape Restaurant is quite possibly the most affordable ocean view restaurant on the southern end of Phuket Island. If you are heading up to Phromthep Viewpoint to watch the sunset anyway, why not head on over to the restaurant and enjoy the show without all the crowds. It is a very relaxing environment that should not be overlooked.

I hear the restaurant used to have indoor dining, pity as that would have been a plus for lunch. On our last trip to Phromthep to view the sunset, we arrived at about 500pm and it was still hot. But the great views from the restaurant made up for it. There were some fussy eaters in our group but they gave favorable comments on the food quality and pricing and at such a great location too. Nice write up.
I think it still has indoor seating, but the major draw of the place is the view, so who would want to sit inside anyway? Like I said in the review, there are a number of tables in the shade, whether under trees or with umbrellas, so it shouldn’t be a problem finding a table out of the sun.
