Popular amongst the local Thais, Laem Ka Beach is one of the more pleasant south Phuket beaches. It is one of those beaches that you have to know where it is in order to find it. If you are in Rawai Beach, it may be worth your time to take a drive and check out this little gem. At the worst, it is worth spending a few hours there enjoying a sunny day out in Phuket.
The beach is not perfect, the sand is nice but it is littered with rocks. There are no loungers available, so you would be wise to bring something to sit on. The sea water is clear and decent for swimming and there are off shore rocks that make for some good snorkeling opportunities. On both ends of the beach there are rock formations jutting out into the sea.
The best thing about Laem Ka Beach is the location. It is in a part of the island that few people ever go to, your trip to this pleasant little beach will likely be very private.
Unfortunately, the beach has become a bit run down in the last few years. It is still a beautiful little locale, but it is not what it was a few years ago. There once was a restaurant that was open during high season, but the building is now falling apart. It is still a pleasant little place to spend an afternoon at the beach.
Beach Activities
There are no rentals available on the beach nor are there any refreshments available. You would be best to bring everything that you will need for the day. There is decent snorkeling opportunities off the shore but you need to bring your own equipment.
Getting There
Starting from Rawai Beach, turn left onto Wiset Road. Continue up the road for a few hundred meters until you come to a 7-11 on your right hand side. Turn on the road that runs along the side of the 7-11. Continue down the road until you come to a guard booth. Some days the barrier is down and you will be out of luck, but must days it will be up, so just drive on through. The road you will find yourself on is very bad and in desperate need of repair. Continue forward through the coconut orchard until you come to a fork in the road. The left path is blocked by a mannequin and a sign. Go down the right path until you reach a parking lot. Laem Ka Beach is located down a hill from the parking lot.
