Kok Chang Safari

Kok Chang Safari located in the jungle between Rawai and Kata Beach is one of the oldest elephant safari’s in Phuket Island and it is one of the must see Phuket attractions. You really can’t travel to Phuket without taking an elephant trek through the jungle. It’s true that elephant’s aren’t the most comfortable animals to ride on, in fact, they are rather uncomfortable. But hey, you’re in Thailand, the Thai’s are crazy about elephants, and it is a unique and fun experience.

They offer rides from anywhere from twenty minutes up to one hour. We recommend that you do the full one hour ride as it takes you to the highest point in the jungle. From there you can see some of the finest Phuket beaches from Kata Noi Beach all the way north to Karon Beach. It is a great experience and is definitely worth a trip.

If mounting the back of a six ton animal isn’t your idea of a fine day, no problem. If you still want to get up close and personal, you are free to feed the elephants. Bananas are a fine treat and they will gladly take them straight from your hand. If there happen to be pineapples around even better, watch as they crush them with ease using their powerful jaws. Afterwards, take a seat at the bar and throw back some drinks as you enjoy the views of the Andaman Sea. The staff at Kok Chang Safari are English speaking and they are all extremely nice.

A day trip up to Kok Chang Safari is worth the effort. Thailand is famous for it’s elephants, so why not get up close and personal with one of these gargantuan mammals. The pictures alone will be enough to impress all of your friends and the memories of such a unique adventure will stay with you for the rest of your life.

  1. I have ridden on camels and horses but have never tried to ride an elephant. Elephants are well known in my country (Kenya) but mostly they are confined in the wild or orphanages.
