Hi Lawrence, I´m going to Thailand for my honeymoon the next month and Im worried about the weather, usually do you have a lot of rain during june? (im going to Phuket and Krabi)
Im looking a hotel in Phuket in a not so crowded beach but with activities to do and already booked the JW Marriot in Phuket, but I just read that there are no beach activities because is a National Park and also that it has the rockiest sand in Phuket, so now I´m wondering if I chose the best hotel and beach for that price?
Please let me know if you recomend me another beach and hotel that fits more with my expectations.
Thaks a lot!

Hi Jiezel. I assume that the weather in Phuket and Krabi are similar, but my knowledge is of Phuket, which is where this information is based. June falls within what is known as the Monsoon season, which means that it is wetter than the Dry season, but not as bad as most people think. Typically this means that about half the days will show some sort of rain, this could be an all day storm, just a quick ten minute burst of rain, or something in between. Based on experience, the large thunder storms are more of the exception then the norm. The summer is still a great time to visit Phuket, don’t be turned off by the names of the seasons, as they can be misleading.
The J.W. Marriott is located on Mai Khao Beach which is indeed a National Park, but it is also a very clean and secluded beach. True there are no beach activities, but this includes Jet-Skis and Banana Boats which can be disturbing to the tranquility of a place anyway. This also means that there are no chairs to rent, which is unfortunate, but you can always lay out a couple of towels on the sand. I always found that a huge row of plastic beach chairs doesn’t really go with the whole natural beauty of the beach anyway. The sand is a bit rocky, but not the rockiest in Phuket by far, and it is still a pleasant experience to walk on it. Overall, I would say that the J.W. Marriott is probably a good choice for a honeymoon.
If you are unfamiliar with the ocean, or even if you are, you should read this article on the dangers of Phuket Beaches. Unfortunately the Monsoon season brings about some very strong swells at times which can be dangerous for swimming in the ocean. Always be aware of the signs posted on the beach. Red means you should not go in the water, yellow means you should use your own judgment. Stay safe on your trip and congratulations on your upcoming nuptials.
Hey Jeizel,
I bet you have come and gone already. Curious to know what your experience in Krabi was.
My wife and I spent a year in Krabi and Lawrence is dead on: even during the rainy season will you get about half a day of beautiful weather to enjoy.
We generally stayed away from Ao Nang (the beach town) during the rainy season but I remember going once and it was fairly windy – and the water was not the cleanest – very different from what we had gotten used to in the dry season.
Meaning: we did not go into the water. The usually packed beach was completely empty too – and the town appeared to have shut down (almost completely) as a result of no tourists… which was an experience in and of itself.
Phuket and Krabi have some of the nicest beaches in the world – no doubt about it!
