Bangla Boxing Stadium

The Muay Thai Boxing Stadium off of Soi Bangla in Patong Beach is probably the most famous of all the boxing stadiums in Phuket. The stadium attracts fighters from all over the world to compete in this ancient Thai martial art. This fast paced fighting can be an exhilarating experience for the first time viewer.

Muay Thai Boxing is the national sport of Thailand and is much faster then traditional boxing. Unlike Western Boxing where the fighters can only use their fists, in Muay Thai, fighters can utilize their fists, elbows, knees and feet. The fights can range from very boring to outright amazing feats of athleticism. It can be hit or miss so cross your fingers and hope for some good fights.

There are typically fights every Friday, Sunday and Tuesday night starting around 9:00pm and carrying on close to midnight. If you are staying in Patong, you will almost certainly see the many open bed trucks driving around announcing the fights. These are typically accompanied with young Thai boxers sparring in the back of the truck. Tickets start at around 1,400 baht for stadium seating or 1,800 baht for VIP ring side seats. The price of beer is about 100 baht for a small bottle.

If you are in Patong beach and are in the mood to catch some fights, head on over to Bangla Stadium. It is a nice break from the bars and offers some good entertainment for the night. Considering it is located off of Bangla Road, it is a convenient walk from many of the top Phuket Resorts in Patong. Although the cost of entrance is a bit higher than some of the other local attractions, it is a cultural experience like no other.

  1. Yeah, last time I was staying in Patong, those fight-announcing trucks woke me up better than any alarm. I was so mad at them I avoided the fight altogether.. But if I knew they’d have a pair of boxers in the back of the truck, I would’ve at least poked my head out of the window. Now I know for next time.
