If you are in the Rawai area, you should definitely give Bamboo Cafe a try. I was fortunate enough to have discovered this little gem of a restaurant back when they first opened up in February of 2010 and the place has been paving it’s own path ever since. What started out as a sort of clone to the once popular Don’s Cafe, has since evolved into something that is unique in itself. It is no wonder that it is a popular hangout for many of the local expats that live in Rawai. The staff are very friendly and they speak English surprisingly well.
Bamboo Cafe is probably best known for it’s cheap breakfasts that are of a Western standard. For only 99 baht, you can order pretty much any sort of breakfast that you desire and be sure to get a well prepared and filling meal. As an added bonus, if you order breakfast before 11am, you also get a free coffee, tea or juice. Did I mention that this is for 99 baht? That’s like three dollars for a Western breakfast. You can’t really beat that price anywhere else in Rawai.
If it wasn’t enough that they serve excellent breakfasts’, they also serve delicious sandwiches, burgers and of course Thai food. But what they are most famous for is their barbeque dishes. The pork ribs are truly amazing. The BBQ sauce that they serve should be bottled and sold in stores. But they say it’s an old family recipe and won’t divulge the secret. It really is something else.
The restaurant was completely remodeled some time at the end of 2011 and now has a much nicer look and feel than it ever has before. If you look at it from the outside, you may think that it is a bit pricey, but the food is actually quite reasonable. If you were to compare it to other similar restaurants in the Rawai area, it would price somewhere below the average.
The restaurant is in a very good location, just off the main road and across from a vacant coconut palm orchard. It is quite convenient, but when you are sitting there, it offers up an air of privacy that you don’t get in a lot of other restaurants. As it is located just a few meters down the road from Rawai Muay Thai, it gets a lot of customers that are training at the popular Rawai gym. So in addition to the local expat crowd, Bamboo Cafe also receives a significant younger crowd.
If you are in the Rawai area and in the mood for a delicious Western or Thai meal without paying a lot of money, the Bamboo Cafe in Rawai Beach is an excellent choice. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but regardless of the meal you are hungry for, you can be sure that it will be well prepared and enjoyable.
